چيپست 945P يكي از پرفروش‌ترين محصولات اينتل براي پردازنده‌هاي سلرون و پنتيوم 4 و پنيتوم D است كه در سال 2005 عرضه شد. همانطور كه از سال عرضه اين محصول پيداست، رسما براي Core 2ها در نظر گرفته نشده بود. با عرضه Core2ها، توليدكنندگان مادربورد، با تغييراتي در مادربوردهاي 945P خود، آنها را براي پشتيباني از Core2ها نيز آماده كردند. بنابراين اكنون مي‌توانيد مادربوردهاي 945P را براي پردازنده‌هاي Core 2 نيز استفاده كنيد. اين چيپست تقريبا جزو راه‌حل‌هاي ارزان قيمت براي Core 2ها به شمار مي‌آيد. قطعا به دليل ارزان‌تر بودن اين چيپست، نسبت به چيپست‌هايي مثل P965 يا P35، برخي از امكانات اين چيپست‌هاي گران قيمت‌تر را در مادربوردهاي 945P نخواهيد ديد.


نمونه اين مسئله، پشتيباني از حداكثر فركانس 667 مگاهرتز براي حافظه‌هاي DDR2 به همراه پل جنوبي قديمي ICH7 است.
مادربورد برگزيده اين سيستم،‌مدل 945P-A از الايت گروپ است. بد نيست قبل از هرچيز، توضيحاتي در مورد الايت گروپ بدهيم. "سيستم‌هاي كامپيوتري الايت گروپ" يا به اختصار ECS يكي از توليدكنندگان مطرح قطعات كامپيوتري به خصوص مادربورد و كارت گرافيكي است. عمده شهرت اين شركت به دليل ارزان بودن نسبي مادربوردهاي آن در كنار امكانات بالا است. كيفيت محصولات اين شركت در كنار قيمت پايين، به فروش خوب محصولات اين شركت كمك زيادي كرده است.
مادربورد 945P-A، ارزان‌ترين مادربورد بر پايه چيپست 945P است كه اكنون در بازار يافت مي‌شود، البته اگر شما مادربورد مشابه و ارزان‌تر از اين مدل را پيدا كرديد، مطمئن باشيد امكانات 945P-A را ندارد.
اين مادربورد جزو محصولات سال 2005 الايت گروپ است. دو نسخه ابتدايي اين مادربورد از Core 2ها پشتيباني نمي‌كردند ولي نسخه 3 آن كه اكنون در بازار است، قابليت پشتيباني از اين نوع پردازنده‌ها را تا حداكثر فركانس مسير 1066 مگاهرتز دارد.
در اولين نگاه به اين مادربورد، وجود دو اسلات PCIe X16 و پشتيباني از تكنولوژي CrossFire براي شما جالب است. براي مادربوردهاي ارزان قيمت در اين رده معمولا پشتيباني از نصب همزمان دو كارت گرافيكي خيلي معنادار نيست. اين قابليت به لطف تكنولوژي انحصاري الايت گروپ با نام SGDE فراهم شده است. در حالت CrossFire يكي از اسلات‌ها در سرعت كامل X16 و ديگري در X4 عمل مي‌كند.
دو پورت SATAII و يك پورت IDE در اين مادربورد توسط پل جنوبي ICH7 فراهم مي‌شود. حداكثر حافظه قابل پشتيباني توسط اين مادربورد، به ميزان 4 گيگابايت است كه همانطور كه گفته شد در حداكثر فركانس 667 مگاهرتز است.
